The GigaStudio 160 Solution
My Gear: Gigastudio 160 - Sonar XL 2.2 - Echo Layla24 - Motif 8 Keyboard
Aim: To Create Midi Projects and Insert Audio from any Gigastudio 160 library or associated instrument patch.
Preliminary Procedure:
Open Gigastudio 160 - Go to "View" to "Settings"
Enable Outputs 1,2
Close GigaStudio 160
Open Sonar XL 2.2
In Sonar XL 2.2, you must DISABLE in Options-Audio-Drivers: Layla24 1-2 Analog
and Layla24 7-8 Analog Close Sonar Xl 2.2
Reboot Computer (advised only once during the Preliminary Set-up)
Let's make some Music!!
Open GigaStudio 160, Use Port 1 and Load a Few Libraries of your choosing.
Lunch Sonar XL 2.2 from GigaStudio 160 **No Driver Error Should Occur**
Create a Template for the Giga instruments being used and their associated channel which must match the midi channel number (In "Track Properties-The Output track must read "Nemesys MidiOut Port 1" for any Giga instrument being used)
All other midi tracks can be used for the "Internal Sounds of your Motif 8 whereas in "Track Properties" - The Output track must read "1 Yamaha USB Out 1-1" (This assume that a USB connector between your Motif * and your Computer is being used only)
At this point you can lay down all of your Giga and Motif 8 internal sounds to your score or arrangement.
It is a good time to edit your notation before moving on.
In order to Capture only the Giga tracks to the Hard Drive you will have to Synchronize Sonar's "Send Midi Sync" in Options-Project-check-transmit Midi Start/Continue/Stop/Clock. ** Set "Midi Output to 3 **
Make sure you are at the beginning of your score.
In Gigastudio 160 - Click the Red Record Button - and the 5th icon to Synchronize To Midi.
Click the 1st small red circle to arm the recorder. (give a name to the file and the location)
Go into Sonar and press the space bar to start playing. You should see that Giga has begun recording in sync with Sonar Xl 2.2 (you are capturing to wave at this moment)
Allow the entire score to play to the end. (It will stop recording automatically) You will only hear the Giga instruments and NOT the Motif instruments. (Not To Worry)
Once the captured file is on your hard drive, Save your Sonar XL 2.2 and GigaStudio 160 file then Close Sonar XL 2.2
In Gigastudio Go To Settings and UNCHECK Outputs 1,2 and CHECK 7,8 - Exit GigaStudio 160. **There is a possibility that your computer may need to be rebooted**
The Finishing Touches
All that is left to do is to work in Sonar Xl 2.2 - Restore Output Drive 1,2 (Go To options, Audio-Drivers-Click Layla24 1-2 Analog Out-Click "ok") Insert an Audio Track - Import the saved .Wav File created by "Capture to Wave in Giga" to that highlighted Audio track - then ARM that Audio track and record the remaining Midi tracks having the internal Motif 8 sounds. (Make sure the the "Input for that Audio Track" matches up with the input you are using for your Motif 8)
Export the Audio Track (16 bits if your intent is to use it for a CD) to your HD. This will be a huge Wav file.
Get an MP3 converter, Convert the Wav file and display your file on the internet for all to hear..
**Before You Exit Sonar XL 2.2, DISABLE Output Drivers 1,2 as you ready yourself for your next project **
